“Melody for a Toothbrush” is quite literally a piece of music meant to mimic the experience of humming along with an electric toothbrush. With no lyrics, this piece explores sounds and techniques from pop a cappella music as well as modern choral music. Different sounds represent different aspects of this experience. Overtone singing in open fifths mimics the sound of the toothbrush, while rhythmic consonants such as tch and k represent the action of brushing across the teeth. Don’t forget to floss!
