About Hannah Kimball

Hannah Kimball serves as the Artistic Director of the Denver Feminist Chorus, a 150+ voice treble ensemble of LGBTQIA+ and allied singers whose mission is based around building community through music and social justice. She recently earned her Master’s degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Denver, and earned her Bachelor's degree in Music Education with a Choral Emphasis from Northern Arizona University. She brings 5+ years of middle school choir and music teaching experience, as well as experience singing in professional choral ensembles.

In her work as a professional choral conductor, she focuses on building healthy vocal tone in a variety of styles, as well as building community, mindfulness, and enjoyment within the music-making process! She fosters individual ownership in singers and students, and encourages growth mindset, making music a process involving the whole self, and an opportunity to practice doing scary things in a safe environment.

In her compositions, she explores techniques pulled from a variety of styles including pop music, impressionism, and minimalism. With her extensive vocal and choral experience, she writes emotionally and colorfully for the voice, exploring how to create beautiful and interesting art that is still accessible for the singer as well as the audience. Hannah feels equally at home writing playful, cheeky pieces, incorporating humor for the musicians and audience alike, as using her writing as an opportunity to explore deeper emotional places through text setting and pure musical expression.
